It is of no secret that nature has provided us with the means to remain healthy. When we eat healthy and exercise, we can prevent most common problems. However, sometimes our immune system fails to protect us against common illnesses and pains.
Why not try to combat illness and try to try to cure yourself or those nearest and dearest to you with the help of essential oils.
The Fee for the Aromatherapy at Home course is £30. Please contact us if you require further information.
What are Essential oils?
Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts which retain their natural smells and properties after they have been extracted.
Extraction can be performed via cold pressing or distillation.
Once the aromatic chemicals have been extracted, they are added to a carrier oil to create a product which can be applied directly to the skin.
How to use essential oils safely:
There are two ways that essential oils can enter the body safely:
(i) Inhalation through the olfactory system.
When inhaling essential oils molecules will meet the olfactory mucous membrane of the nose. The olfactory membrane has thousands of receptors that identify the smell. The Olfactory bulb is a neural structure of the vertebrate forebrain involved in the sense of smell (Olfaction). It sends olfactory information to be further processed and it plays a role in emotion, memory and learning.
The response is determined by the specific qualities of the essential oil being used and can range from relaxing to stimulating.
The entire process from the initial inhalation of the oil to corresponding gland secretion takes place is almost instant. Therefore, a simple inhalation can cause changes in the body from stimulating the immune system, to relaxing depending on the properties of the essential oils.
(ii) Dermal absorption through the surface of the skin.
The skin is the largest organ and is permeable to fat soluble substances and relatively impermeable to water soluble substances.
Essential oil molecules are so small that when they are applied to the skin; they can pass through the outer layer of the epidermis. From here the oil molecule pass into the capillaries and into the bloodstream.
Massage helps the absorption of the essential oil into the body as massage warms the skin and increases the blood circulation.
